it has been a MINUTE since I’ve had a Stranger poke their head around the corners of my mind and make their way onto paper (screen? both?). this is, in fact, my first Stranger character of 2023!
i took a long break from making them, for no real reason, other than that no new ones came to visit until now. work-work has been bumpin’ (and I say bumpin’ because busy is boring). it’s also been a fabulous season for freelance work and for Anthropology of Your Inner World, so I’ve been pouring most of my extra energies into those channels. I have to say - the wait, and whatever growth has happened since my last Stranger creation, was WORTH IT!!
I did so many things a little differently with this character, named Chichida, and I’m very chuffed with the result.
See below for the text that goes along with them:
ah yes, the good ol’ apples vs. oranges trope. but don’t tropes and clichés kind of exist for a reason? easy to brush off, but sometimes so true. i enjoyed extending the metaphor to the fruit bowl of humanity, so colourful! lush! vibrant! diverse! what fruit would I be, my partner, my dog (wait, he’s a dog…)??? kumquat sounds fun, but i don’t know enough about them to say I am one. I could also be a peach - easily bruised, sweet, but also pretty hardcore… I’m definitely not a banana. what about you?
the pilot of Anthropology of Your Inner World
AOYIW has been going splendidly and we are close to wrapping up! watching others engage with the modules and activities and be so open to receiving the ideas, open to sharing, and open to experimenting, has been such a joyful experience for me. I can’t wait to fine tune this brain baby of mine and share it more widely. here are a few pieces that have come out of the group since my last newsletter update:
One of my favourite activities is the making of an “ugly” collage:

i’m also hosting another IRL collage night with Issues Magazine Shop, here in Toronto! The last one was so much fun, that we’re doing it again on Sunday, May 14th. Last time it sold out - so be sure to get your tickets soon if you’re planning on coming!

i’d like to leave you with this lil meditation I shared on my instagram the other day, which felt surprisingly vulnerable. but people liked it, said they needed it, so I thought I’d share it with you all today too:
thank you for reading my frienderinos. ever grateful for your presence, whether near or far. i have so much more I want to share but it is all work in progresses or client work, or projects I have in mind but have not had time to actualize… ahh, deep breath, all in due time.
oh also ps. I have blue hair now. just call me marge!
hugs,
katia
